I just bought a 125 and all apropriate materials, however, a friend gave me an aditional wet dry. It's meant for a smaller tank, but I wondered if an adtional filter would be beneficial or just redundant?
I was also given an aditional eheim 2215 wich I already bought as well.
anyone know?

I agree, if your tank is already fully equipped, why not use the extra equipment on a Nano or a Hosp/QT? A QT, IMO, is as crucial and as important as are heaters and thermometers.

Thank you for responding.
I'm going to have quite an agressive tank with the 125. I was thinking about a second Reef tank or the hospital tank idea.
I was actually given a complete setup. for a 65 gallon. I even have the tank, wood stand, lights and hood. I was just not sure If I was ready to dive into a reef tank just yet. Money and time!
Do you think a refugium tank is important for a fish only setup?

Depends on the fish. If you keep a Mandarin, the definitely so. If you keep a family of Tomato Clowns, then not neccessary, unless Nitrates pop up, which should be prevented with good LR and a DSB. HTH

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Puka a type of shell? Puka shells will basically be the same as CC, and you won't be getting a DSB. A DSB works because it provides an oxygen-deprived zone, in which anaerobic bacteria may grow, and complete the nitrogen cycle. Sand must be used in order to keep the oxygen out, however shells and CC are to coarse and such, that they cannot complete this task.

well, gotta disagree with the work factor here, since you do NOTHING to clean or maintain a dsb, except build it, so the work is different, ou just let your creatures do the work with a dsb
where as cc should be cleaned adn or have a ugf or other filter too
