Yup, I have also been gashed badly by a Northern Pike. Darn good eatin' though! And good fighters (not compared to Pacific salmon species though...)! :D Before I moved to Vancouver (and eventually Southern Cali), I lived in Northern Manitoba, near Thompson. My father was a pilot for a local charter bushplane outfit so we'd always go find a lake that was empty (and only accessible by floatplane) and fish. We released a lot though, because we would catch our legal limit in about 20 minutes, and didn't want to go home yet. I remember once I got a bite the very MILLIsecond my hook/bait hit the water after casting. It must have landed right in front of a fish. I also remember having fish for dinner at least 3/4 nights a week. Because my parents were so good at preparing it differently, I actually never got tired of it.

My grandfather grew up his whole life in northern Manitoba, and became an expert at de-boning northern pike. Yes, there are a lot of bones, but if you de-bone them correctly, there should be few, if any. I wonder if people have kept northern pike in a large freshwater tank...... :)
