Canadian Room mate

So, my brother is going of to college this next year. Isn't that sad (

:happy: ) (I get his room, and it bigger than mine, so I can fit in more aquariums).
He has been emailing his room mate, and trying to get to know him.
Well, for a going away to college present, my parents are buying him a desktop computer AND a laptop. He plans on bring his Sterio, computers, ipod, cellphone, ect. He asked his room mate "So, what electronics are you going to be bringing into the dorm with you?" You, just to see if there was anything he could leave home.
Do you know what his room mate said?
"My personal CD player." Thats it.
I think it might've made my brother feel alittle guilty...

By still living at home. I'm assuming you are young.. in your teens maybe? Grow up racism is not funny, and by using the term canadian in place of another derogatory term did you really think you were being cool?

When did I say I was racist? I was just pointing out that I wasn't talking about canada, I was talking about A canadian.

Maybe the kid isnt as well off and unable to have an ipod, a Desktop PC, a lap top, a cell phone and a sterio
or possibly he doesnt think of some of these as electronic -
I also dont get what his being canadian has to do with it -- my roommate when I was in college (15 years ago) lived less then 2 miles aways from me and she didnt bring anything other then her TV - I also dont get the assumption that was made that by using Canadian you were "using the term canadian in place of another derogatory term did you really think you were being cool?"
what am I missing here?
he may want to check out the school first before he brings things - or because of the distance he may have been forced to chose what to bring and other things may have won that battel

About 8-10 years ago the term canadian was being used to talk about african americans, people then and apparently now thought/ think it's ok to use because, obviously unless you have heard the term canadian used that way, you would think nothing of it, so it bacame a safe "code" word to use in public and only those who had heard it used that way knew you meant N****R.
I am assuming by Ethos bold and underlined statement that he means it to be used this way.

Wow people are a little sensitive here.. Maybe he just pointed out Canadian because he lives in Minnesota which boarders Canada... So when he meets people maybe its more common to say "hey I’m Canadian, or I’m American". Just a guess, since I don’t live there, nor do I live near Canada.
Or maybe he is pointing out that people in Canada may not be as interested in bringing electronic toys to college. So he is pointing out some cultural differences between the Canadians and us.
and for the Canadian being slang for other names I have never heard that before. That’s a pretty big assumption.

dang smart of "the canadian". none of his stuff will be used and abused in the dorm parties. i bet "the brother" will let him use his computers and stereo all the time anyways. sounds to me like "the canadian" is the smarter one in this scenario, and getting the much better deal.
