candy cane coral

Just wondering, I have a candy cane coral that seems to have root like strings coming from them. They are anywhere from one to three inches in length, wrap around and through the rocks in various directions. Can not see where they actually originate from but seem to come from the coral and spread out.
Is this normal?

Vermetid snail....as long as it isn't choking the coral all is well. They die off and go away on their own. It won't do much good to clean it off, because it will return within the hour....if it's choking the coral move it for a bit out of the way if possible.

Not harmful. IF you wanted to remove, best to use a pliers or such, and break off the base of whatever they're attached to

They are not really touching anything but the rocks, they just appear to come from the base of the coral but not to clear of that. They are pretty thick, life strings for a weed eater, not thin like a spider web. How long do they live and how does it get there?
