Canister filter trouble..

I took down my tank, and set it up two days later..
It's currently running on a canister filter, which in the process, I unplugged, and left where it was. I plugged it back in today and it refuses to work, it simply makes a lot of noise. It is still filled with water, anyone know what the problem could be?

Gunk in the impeller. Under the top of the canister is a round, usually translucent, intake/outtake. Remove it and clean it out with hot tap water.

So just turn it off and remove the lid to reveal the impeller?
