Cannister filter necessity.

I find the information and advice on this forum most helpful. Like many topics posted here, there are differences and opinions.
I have a question about cannister filters.
I have 37g FOWLR, sand bed, PS, Fluval304.
My question is, by adding a fuge do I then remove the cannister filter?
Will the fuge and PS be enough to also serve as mechanical filters?

I'd keep the cannister and just add in the refugium. From what I know of fuges they won't act as mechanical filtration but set up right they'll do some biological filtration since it's another place for the bacteria to grow. If you add a macroalgae to it that'll be even better as the macro will use up extra nutrients and such from the water that would normally go to any nuisance algaes.
