cannot figure out what this is

I used peppermint shrimp to rid my tank of apistasia. You can also get Apistasia-x. I also use that and it works really well. Touching it also causes it too shoot off spores and they start to grow in other places. So now you might have more pop out. When using Apistasia-x make sure you cover the whole thing or it can shoot off little spores and grow else where.

Did it close or actually retract into the rock so you couldn't see it anymore.
It appeared to roll down into itself, looked a bit like a donut. It didn't completely retract, I could still see it a little bit.

Yep sound slike what mine did! Goes into a ball folds inwards inside itself. When I killed mine thats what they did and then melted.
Henry it almost looks like when the zoa's close up.

Still not ready to call this an Aiptasia. Still think zoanthid or parazoanthus. Don't thin the tentacles on this are long enough to be an aiptasia.

I think I am going to leave it for now. If it gets a little bigger maybe it would be easier for a positive ID. Even if it is aiptasia, if it doesn't start reproducing, it shouldn't hurt me too much to leave it for a while.

im with henry, any of the little aiptasia weve had in our tank had quite long tentacles from the get go. and even when not in light the colour is much darker.

I've been staring at this thing since yesterday and I noticed that at night it seems to stick out from the rock more (you can see more of the tube). When the lights come on it goes back in and only the "head" sticks out.

As an added bonus to inspecting all of my rocks, I found my lost hermit crab. I guess one of my rocks shifted and pinned his shell between 2 rocks. He must have been stuck for about a week. I lifted up the rock and he scooted away, happy as can be. :)

when i first saw your photo i thought of corynactis or psuedocorynactis, ball anemone. they usually have lil bulbs at the end of the tentacles though.

I think its just too small to tell right now...plus it might be bleached out. I am going to let it get bigger and then post a new pic if it changes significantly.

None of the above.
Not aptasia, not a ball, or any psuedocorynactis. Dang myself for being holed up and letting my mental glossary erode.
BangGuy- get in here and set it straight.

I looks to be getting a little darker brown in the few days since I flipped the rock over. I will try to get a new pic when I get home from work tonight. My camera isn't great so I don't know if it will be any better.

I am thinking it will turn a deeper brown/burgundy color. Name was on tip of tongue but I have lost much.
Normally it is llike calling for beetle juice. Hmm I will try again....

Looks like a Parazoanthus axinellae to me.
If that is what it is, would that be good, bad or neither? I have a second little guy on the same rock that looks like the last picture you posted.
