there is no real answer to this. Other then practice, practice, practice.
You gotta understand the settings and how they are before you can figure that out.
i have had decent luck withe the simple portrait mode and a flash. just be careful to shoot at an agle to the glass to miss the flash reflection, but as previously said, practice, practice, practice. there are too many variables to say one way...
