Ok so i bought a canon rebel for myself for xmas. so far i have played with it a little and dont really understand alot of it. I want to take nice pictures of my fish tank but i wanna know what the best settings are for the canon rebel xt for my fish tank.
also....i was wondering if i could get a flash to happen over an ios of 200? So far all i can do is get one up to 200 on manual mode and not above.....is this just the way the camera was built or do i need to set it differently?

Best bet would be to understand all the terminology of the camera and what messing with those settings do to the picture.
Find a website or forum dedicated to your camera or some sort of simple guide someone wrote to help.
There are even books you can buy that are very helpful on photography.
Search the forum a bit and see what you can come up with.
Edit* http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/ might be a good start

On M mode the only time the flash will fire if it is up. You have to press the button next to the flash to make it pop up. It will fire at any ISO unless you are at an ISO high enough that the metering system determines that the flash is not needed. I am pretty sure though in the creative modes if you have the flash popped up it will fire no matter what to add fill flash.
Best thing to do to take pics is use the creative modes. Stay out of those preset crap. Shoot in Av,tv, and M
Get a tripod to help. Av will let you control the aperture and the metering system will control the shutter speed. Tv is the opposite. You control the shutter speed and the camera controls the aperture.
In M you can do alot of tuning there. You can set the fstop you want then play with the shutter speed to get the proper exposure of your thank on how you want it.

I never use the pop up flash. SO maybe anything over ISO200 the camera deemed the flash was not necessary to fire to get the correct exposure.
