Canon S45...

...soon to be a Canon G5. If everything goes according to plan. The S45 was my first digital camera and it is decent enough to post pics that are fair representations of what my eye sees. I still need to improve my picture taking ability...but I think a improvement in camera quality will help. Attached below is a series of fairly decent pics from the Canon S45.
First is a few pics of my little bi-color blenny....here he is in his favorite cave...he has several but this is his favorite hang-out.

Another of my bi-color...these are some of the few pics I've ever been able to get of him...

This little dude is full of personality...and to date has shown no interest in my clams...but believe me I keep a close eye on him. If he should ever decide to nip my clams I'll trap his butt and transfer him to the refugium in a heartbeat.

Next is a first look at my most recent addition. I traded some frogspawn frags for this moon brain last week...basically a free coral...the coloration isa very interesting mottled green/maroon...

Another fairly recent addition...this one I am trying to nurse back to health. So far it seems stable and hasn't gotten any worse than it was when I got it...its some sort of pectina...

I have two small colonies of these orange ricordias...this one has recently split and is showing signs of maybe splitting again.

My first ever clam...a Squamosa. Started as a little 3"-4" baby and is now a 6"-7" beast. I also keep a 5"-6" derasa & a 3" maxima.

So thats all for now...as you can see the pics aren't the best quality...but I try to improve as I go along. I seriously believe the pic quality will improve if I'm able to get the G5...but maybe I'll be forever destined to taking average pics.

Those are very good pics. The last is very "dreamy" looking. I may not know fish very well, but photography I do. I have not left the 35MM format yet though. That's why I can't post pics. I'm trying to patiently wait for digital SLR's to come into range. The Cannon 10D's are reaching the 1K mark. Once I can get a body for $500, I'm on it.
The quality of your pics are very good and agitate my desire for digital capability. Bravo

Thank you...it tough to get a decent pic considering the size limitations here. 500x500 just doesn't do some of them justice.

I have the S50 and I agree that while it can manage some decent shots now and then, it kinda misses the bar considering some of the available technology.
It does a remarkable job otherwise though . . . I mean CRYSTAL clear shots outdoors in almost every setting I have been in. Indoors it kinda lacks, but outdoors . . . man this camera can take pics that rival the G5.

I agree 007...for normal everyday pics...especially outdoors my S45 is excellant. I want to be able to reproduce better macro shots of my reef though...and sadly the S45 just isn't enough camera...now and then a good photo will spring forth. But it is rather limited (as am I) ...

Those are some pretty good pics. If you were to look at Macro (if you're not set on the G5 yet), I'd prolly look into getting a Nikon Digi instead. Don't get me wrong, the macro on the G5 is great but if you want something from Canon that has got GREAT Macro you might look at the PowerShot Pro 1. I have the G5 and can't really knock it. But for macro, Nikon is usually the leader. JMO.

Point is well taken on the better macros with the Nikon...I am considering a coolpix 5700 or maybe 5400...but the price on the G5 is better and I already am familiar with the Canon S45...but the Nikon is definitely in the running.Bottom line is I will be purchasing a new camera soon...and as of today I'm leaning towards the G5.

I have an older Nikon CoolPix 995. You might have seen some of my images posted here and there.
The new CoolPix are pricey as with most newer cameras of that caliber. I'd recommend getting an old 995 or similar if you want an aquarium/macro cam. It does the job quite well and you can probably find it for real cheap on ----.
