Canon S50 or Olympus C-4000

I have the C-4000 and love it. You can click on my sig and see some of the photos I have taken with it.:)

And out of both of those, I would pick the G3 =X
Don't buy from best buy, buy from a online retailer... G2 at BB cost 600+, a G3 online cost 500+ i think..

I have the C-3000 and it takes awesome pictures. I bought it at Office Max a couple of years ago. However, I have yet to figure out the macro thing. I'm sure it is on there, I just can't come up with it. I looked on the Olympus website just yesterday for a bigger lense and I believe they had a couple of different ones listed. I read in another thread about a flower and I think I remember seeing one of there. Will have to go home and try!
Aggie05 - How does your macro work? The two camera are almost identical (as far as looks and functioning methods).
Thanks!

can you back that up with some evidence? that statement is false to the member of swf.com. first off, canon uses flourite lens which ziess also uses (with their permission). canon's experience with film camera not only give them the lead with photography equipment, but prove them to be one of the best at it. the only other competitor they have as far as amatuer as well as pro equipment is nikon due to the fact that nikon's superior metering system. anyways, both systems are good, and it comes down to the preference of what you need (superior optic? fps? metering? etc). as for olympus...bk7 glass isn't that impressive...and some of their digital cam even uses plastic lens.

I second the previous statement, although i still think that olympus makes a quality product, i just think that canon is better.
I would like to hear Rye's opinion on the S50 though as i am strongly considering this product.

If you want some back up proof that Olympus is a better digital camera than Cannon, look at a consumers report, or do a seach on the internet for photography sites, the Olympus is always rated better. I'm not going to get into the nitty gritty, but in actual comparisons the Olympus comes out on top.
As for regular camera's that is a different story.

Dazed1,
Are you using a tripod to take pictures of the tank? If not, use one it keeps the camera steady and the focus doesn't jump around with the movement. Also you might want to check the shutter speed.

Well I am assuming that you want better pictures right? Comparisions with picture output. And if you notice I also said to do a seach of profession photography magazines and web pages, see what they rate these two!

The arguement is that you believe that Olympus is better than Canon. Sorry, you will not convince me or any other photographer at that, with this arguement. Olympus's ONLY digital SLR on the market right now is the E-20N, which is a big dissapointment. Can a camera be any slower? Not to mention the softness of the Olympus lens. While you claim Olympus produce better digital camera, Canon has about 5 digital SLR on the market and all the pros are using them ;) You know, everytime you go to some kind of even and you see telephoto lens, and they are white....remind yourself, he's shooting with a Canon :)

Not trying to get into any heated arguments here but..........
I would personally go with the S50 from Canon.......it is better than the Olympus C-4000. You probably won't go wrong with either one but, the Canon is actually designed to be better.....it costs more money than the Olympus because of the higher resolution, better build one the body, superior lens quality, stronger telephoto range, etc..
goofieones ~ Just for your info.....Olympus pays the most money to the advertisers and Consumer Reports.....that is why they always rank at the top........great cameras for sure but, the reason they always make it to the top is $$. ;)
Consumer Reports is a joke in the camera industry. :)
Canon S50 vs. Olympus C-4000..........you be the judge.

Hey rye,
how reliable would you rate that dpreview.com page?
I have looked at it before, but anytime i see a site like these, i also take them with a grain of salt. I saw one once that sad the G3 would be sitting on the store shelf with a thick layer of dust on the box. dont remember the site, but thats what i am talking about, that kinda thing.
