Canopy questions

My new light reflectors are 4.5 inches tall. Would a thirteen inch tall canopy give enough clearance off the water for MH bulbs and water splashes?
I am planning on an open back canopy. With this how many fans should I install on the canopy?
light info:
3 - 250w 14k coralvue bulbs
3- spider reflector
3- icecap ballast
canopy building materials:
5- 2x2
1- sheet of 1/2in plywood
1- piano hinge

Thats about the EXACT same setup I am doing right now. I'll post pics of mine and how I did it. I made mine 12 inches tall and I have the same light set up you do. You'll be fine. The bulb is about 9 inches away from the water with this, and they recommend 8-10" off the waters surface. I would 45º the wood so it gets rid of the edges. I did on mine and it looks great. I used a piece of baseboard to keep it on the tank in case any jars it loose. I'll take pics of my process. I did 4 - 4" coral vue smartfans that change speed based on temperature all pointing in, and I am drilling some 2" holes on the top for breathing. Should work great. There are 2 fans on each side by the way with a 4 - 4 inch holes there via holesaw.
