canopy questions

just a few quick questions for those of you who have made your own canopy.
type and thickness of wood?
type of paint?
I have a 55 gal I am going to mount 2x65 pcs and 2x110 vhos inside of.

Ill be using pc and vho. I have a 2x65w pc fixture(10000K). And I have a 2x110 2 vho retro kit(actinic). Ive got a general idea of how I want to do it but any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

we used 1x2's for the frame and luane plywood for the sides and top. we left the back open to help the heat dissipate. it's nice and light and I can lift it off of my 55 by myself. we varnished it with polyurethane, at least 3 coats. it came out really nice. don't have a digital camera or I'd post a pic.

I just finished one. I used 1X10's for the whole thing. Made a frame but cut vent holes for the back. 1X10's on top. One of them I cut down to make a top with hinges for feeding, etc. I am using oil base semi gloss paint for outside and only a base coat for inside. Put rails on the inside for the canopy to rest on top of the tank. This also hides the aquarium trim.
