Canopy replacement?

I have a 120 tall reef and lately I've been thinking about switching over to MH lights. I have 6 96-watt PCs, 3 are 10,000K whites and 3 are blue atinics. Moons, too. I really want to switch over but I have no idea where to begin at all, and I'm pretty sure I'd have to either find and buy or build a new canopy, because MH's need to be far off the water from what I've heard and my canopy has my lights only about 4 inches off the water, if that. I've included a picture so you can see what I mean. Also, how would I go about installing fans? And what kind of wattage and placement would I need? Anyone who's really experienced with MH lighting would really be of a great help to me.
Thanks.

My Metale halides are about 8 inches off the water, and i think they can be more just depends on the wattage of your lights. You will need at least 250's for a 120 tall. I have a 125 long and get by with 3, 150 watt. mhs plus actinics/ But as far as your canopy goes. You may have to take off the top and add a 4 to 6 inch taller piece of wood., which would be fairly easy. ANd wood look nice, just get a really nice piece of trim that would match the rest of the top. goodluck!! And let us know how it goes! Oh ! Yes you will def. need fans too!! 4 of them on top or at the ends would most likely do the job!!

Here is what I did for a canopy because once you get a 12" tall canopy and the MH it is a PIA to open the top to get into the tank, This was very easy to make. I bought computer fans that were wired to plug into a regular outlet, get two 4.5" fans, I mount mine on the ends and keep the back open for good airflow.

You built that yourself?

I'm not exactly mechanically inclined, haha. I'll try, though.
I know you can't post websites but if either of you have a good website to get the MHs/ballasts off of, could you email them to j_catt08@homail.com ?
Thanks again for your help.
