canopy strength

There has been a lot of discussion about canopy strength lately. Some say you need frames and some say you don't. I am one of the ones that says you don't need a frame for it to be strong. This canopy is made of 3/4 oak plywood with no frame. You can see from the pic that it is plenty strong. Now I really don't recommend people trying this because it is not really a smart idea. I just had to do it to prove a point. As long as a canopy is built right it will be strong enough to hold more than enough weight. Now I only weigh about 160 lbs but nobody will have this much weight on thier tank.

That looks pretty close to the style that I will build this week for my 125. How many coats of sealer is that and is it polyeurathane. I used one good coat of semi gloss but yours looks really shiney and i really like that, so I may throw on a coat or two of gloss.

Actually it only has 2 thin coats of semi gloss poly. Just looks a lot shineier from the flash.
