GFI= Ground Fault Interupt, its the type of outlet that is normally found in bathrooms, outside, and sometimes in the kitchen. They have the little trip and reset buttons on them.
Your really not going to find someone more knowledgable about this than SCSInet on this forum. Check out some of the other forums and you will find similar info about voltage testers. Beware you will find plenty that have found stray voltage with a voltage meter but like SCSI and I said you can get a reading regardless of whether you really have stray voltage or not.

If I understand you correctly, I need an outlet that my tank plugs into to be a GFT. Also do I need to plug all into that? or only my pump?

Yes you should be using a GFI outlet for everything on your tank, especially anything that is submerged.

Wonder how much an electrician would charge to change my outlets I use for tank eqpt.?
