I have a gateway DC-M40 4.1MG Digital Camera.
I've used it for awhile without this problem. I went on a cruise the week before last, took lot's pictures. I get home and we can't see the pictures.
When I took a picture, the picture recorded, and the number of pictures left to take went down.
The computer sees an avi. and only two pictures. One picture was taken the last day, and lots of other were taken before and after it. The other picture may have been the last picture I took, I don't remember.
The space is taken up on the memory card (Simple Tech CompactFlash 256MB). The computer shows 140MB is taken up on the card. The avi. is 5.49mb, 1 pic is 416kb and the other is 214kb. So if the space is gone, where are my picuters?
Last night we put in the SanDisk 32MB memory card that came with the camera. We reset the camera to factory setup. I then took pictures. Those pictures came out. I put the 256 memory card back in, and still could not see the pictures I took.
What am I doing wrong? Why can't I see the pictures on the memory card? Is it the card? the computer(two computers show the same thing)? Me?
I would be greatful for any help, as these are pictures from our Honeymoon, and I'd hate to lose them.
Thanks! I know I got some good pictures and I really want them.

Any ideas anyone? I hooked the camera up to my computer just to rule out that it's the computer. But still can't see the pictures on my computer. :nope:

If the PC can't "see" them, then it doesn't sound very good. If the pics are on there and the files are not corrupt, I see no reason the computer would only see some, and not all. I am far from expert, but it doesn't sound too promising to me. I'm sorry.

I had a similar problem with my camera where both the camera couldn't see any of the pics and Windows requested that the card be formatted. I used a program called photorescue by a company datarescue ( google photorescue and you should get the companies website )
You can download a demo of the program to see if it finds anything, but you will need to purchase it to actually recover the files. It will actually show you a preview of all the pics.

I got most of my photos back! photorescue didn't work with my camera or I was using it wrong. But Sinner went to google, searched for Digital Photo Recovery and found a program that worked.
THANK YOU! If you need any help with saltwater fish I'll help you in any way I can.
