Can't seem to find any help

Well this isnt exactly a SW problem but I can't get any help elsewhere. I have a figure eight puffer that I bought a week ago and a few days ago I noticed an outbreak of ich. This is my first time dealing with ich so I went to my LFS and picked up the usual copper treatment. The fish is in my 20L FW tank with some barbs and a pictus cat. He is going to stay there until the 10 gallon brackish I set up finishes cycling. Anyways, today I read something about never giving scaleless fish copper treatment. This of course worried me. So what should I do? I tested my levels in the 10 gallon and the ammonia is almost down to zero but the nitrite is still very high. So I guess putting him in there is out of the question. Any help would be very much appreciated.
