Can't they all just get along?

My favorite fish has always been the Copperband butterfly. I finally bought one today. I had a Racoon butterfly already in the tank. I like butterfly fishes. The CB is about an inch bigger than the Rac but the Rac is showing signs of aggression already. I was told that they would get along and that the Rac is a more aggressive fish, that is why I bought a bigger CB. Will the Rac eventually let up or will he kill the CB? Is he just showing dominance? I hope they will eventually live peacefully. I would hate to get rid of either one. Any thoughts or comments?

Is this in the 45g?
You're in for trouble, IMO. It is tough just to get a copperband going in a tank without another butterfly.

They can't as the tank is too small if a 45 and they are territoirial by nature.
They are also a delicate species of fish and most do not do well in captivity. This does not mean the home aquarist cannot be successful....it just means many will die for every one that thrives.
To answer your question....some fish will continue to torment to the other eventually stresses out and dies. Others will let up once they have proven a point. They do not have many areas to swim to in your size tank...a crap shoot.
I would suggest you do some research on the net regarding the two butterflies and draw your own conclusions regarding your tank size, etc.
Please know I am only trying to help...as I have committed many errors in my 30 plus years in this hobby.
best of luck.
