Cap Water Pumps

Just wondering if any1 has anything good or bad to say about these products.
I just had a CAP 400 pump go bad and destroyed my tank.
The pump is about a year old.
Somehow the Silicone or whatever sealer for the pumps motor gave way and the motor backfed power and hit my breaker. Due to me being out of town and 2 days without power to the fishtank, i have pretty much lost everything in the tank. Dont know if i have any recourse with the company with having a defective product. I was wondering if any1 happen to have a contact with CAP manufacturing direct.
I guess my other question would be. How often do you change out your pumps to avoid this problem.
Please advise.
Thanks

I have had 4 of these pumps, and still use a cap 3000 on my skimmer. I've had really good luck with them over the last 3 years. I've never had one stop working, or blow up.

I have a cap 2200 as my return pump. No problems yet. Is there any way to tell if a pump is on it's way out?
