Carbon filters

I was doing some research and it said that corrals put off some type of chemicals that have to be taken out with carbon filters.
I have asked questions on here about having some kind of filter but everyone said I didnt need one with a protein skimmer, DSB, and refugium. but i was wondering how you all use your carbon in your tanks.

NO. I have had a reef tank going for the past 10 plus years and i have never used carbon. I think carbon neutralizes the suplements you add to your tank for coral growth.

From all the readings i have seen here it sounds like running carbon a couple of days a month should be beneficial. That is what i do.

I have a reef tank and I used to run carbon 24/7 now I have a phosphate problem and have switched to running Phosphate sponge and Chemipure. After I get my phosphates in line I may run a carbon for 1 week a month.

I personally do not. But when I start adding sps to my reef i will to eliminate any toxins produced by the softies in my tank.
