carbon filtration

I have been told I should remove the carbon pad in my Eheim filter as it filters out the kent additves I add to my tank, is this true?

I was told that as well, I think it is true... I have a sump/ref. now but would still like to know!

i know it can filter out some additives;purple up,for example,but i dont know about all of them.
