Carbon Filtration

I am using a magnum cartidge filter with Carbon in my reef tank. I read somwhere that carbon can remove trace elements. Should I not use this filter with a reef tank? The carbon I am using has litte to no phosphates. The tank seems to be doing fine.
Thanks,
Mark

i would not use carbon full time, and when and if i use it , i would make sure it is phosphate free, not little phosphates

I run carbon normally once a month for 24-48 hrs in my reef. Basically only to polish up the water a bit. This has been discussed at great length and seems there are numerous opinions on if it should be used or not. The carbon I use has never contributed to phosphates that I know of(but I also run kents phosphate sponge when I run carbon). In any case the system I use has worked for my systems.
