Carbon for air exhaust on skimmate collection cup

I recently replaced my ASM Mini G skimmer on my 90G with a Marine Precision Bullet 1. The skimmate collector for Marine Precision skimmers has a PVC chimney for holding activated carbon to remove foul odors from the air exiting the collector.
My question is what kind of Activated Carbon should I use to scrub the air? I'm guessing that I would want something really coarse as not to block the air exiting the collector. Do they make cartridges for this? Should I just get a mesh bag and fill it with carbon like I would to filter water?

It could be for scrubbing the air of Ozone.
I saw a few skimmers that were Ozone capable and ready. I guess the Ozone is fed into the skimmers air induction. They had carbon somehow in relation to the collection cup. I guess Ozone isnt supposed to be released into the atmosphere. I really have no idea I just thought I might throw that out there.

I'm pretty sure that you are correct. The skimmer has a capped intake for Ozone. I'm not planning on running Ozone at the moment, but I'd still like to put some carbon in the "chimney" to help reduce the odor of the skimmate. I'm just not sure of the best way to go about it.
I also want to be sure not to completely block the flow of air. The skimmer will stop skimming if air can't exit from the skimmate collector. In fact it has a ping pong ball float that will block the air when full to prevent overflows.

Ozone for fish tanks can be great when used correctly, it helps saturate the water with pure O2, and thus helps break down any organic waste a little faster and also aids in fish health. They are usually used in conjunction with skimmers and are supposed to amp up your skimming potential. So that might be a good thing to look into down the road, they are a little pricey though..
As for the carbon not sure I did not know they were able to house carbon, cool idea though..

Sounds like you have a BA skimmer.

It's a Precision Marine Bullet 1 skimmer. It's a Beckett Foam Jet style skimmer. It seems to do a pretty good job of skimming, but it has a pretty big footprint (can barely squeeze it into my wet/dry sump) and it requires a pretty massive pump for a skimmer. I'm driving mine with a dedicated mag 12 pump.
I'm actually considering going back to using my cheap ASM mini G instead. It pulled out a decent amount of funk, needed less maintenance and fit a lot better into the limited space I have available in the sump.

Any quality carbon would surfice for this purpose....the carbon is to remove impurities. That feature is very common on beckett style skimmers....My MRC came stock using cotton balls, but they clog really easy. The carbon will remove stuff from the air being inducted into the skimmer. It is a good idea, and will affect how the skimmer skims. HTH
