carbon?

ive read articles on the site that say people only use carbon for 1 week each month? i have an emperor 400 and 280? on my 58 gallon. isnt carbon what is inside the disposable filters? should i take them out. also i have a smallskimmer ive read you dont really need one should i take it off. how should i got about doing all this.

If your tank is doing well and all inhabitants are healthy, stick with the what you have. Carbon does have pros and cons but, they are all opinion based on study. Can be read diffrent ways.
