Alkalinity (meq/L)
Natural Seawater Value: 2.5 meq/L
Acceptable Range: 2.5 to 5.0 meq/L
Maintaining an appropriate alkalinity is crucial to maintaining a
healthy aquarium. A fluctuating alkalinity will lead to serious problems in maintaining an appropriate pH, as well as problems keeping calcium and magnesium levels within required ranges.

I measure it different I guess but a dKh of 8-12 is acceptable along with a calcium level of 380-450ppm

I recommend 175ppm for most tanks. Very large systems can get by with lower levels.
WHen it get too low (below 100ppm) corals, clams, snails, etc. cannot calcify and stop growing. Lower than that and their skeletons can begin to dissolve. PH may begin to fluctuate a lot with low KH as well.
High KH (above 250ppm) can cause Calcium carbonate precipitation. This will show up on heaters and powerheads first.
