I really need some help with this guys. Here's the deal, I went out today and bought some of the Caribsea seaflor special grade reef sand to replace the CC that's in my tank now. My first question is will I have to go through a cycle again if I keep all the water thats in the tank now? See the thing is I don't have any place to put all my shrimp and starfish because my QT tank has had copper in it so many times I'm scared to put them in there with the fish. Please fill me in on what you would do in my spot. Oh and is this Caribsea seaflor special grade reef sand any good?

I am not sure what I would do in your dilema. Though I wanted to say hello from a fellow Iowan! I wish I could give your pointers, but I can't. I will let someone help you on this one. Again hello!

how long has the tank been set up, what kind of biological filtration do you have, and how much live rock do you have in the tank? these can all affect the outcome of your changeover. if you have a sufficient amount of live rock/bio filtration you may only experience a ripple in your levels. i think if you were that concerned maybe your LFS would hold your critters for you for a few days while you monitor things after the change over. i always see other peoples stuff at the places i frequent, but i guess it would come down to a matter of whether they would hold them for you and whether you trusted them. or you could just throw them in there a few hours after you change it out and cross your fingers... that sand should be just fine.

oh yeah, one more thing, it would probably help if you saved some of your crushed coral to jumpstart the sandbed. just put some of it in some pantyhose or something similar and leave it on top of your sand for a week or two
