I Have Had My Carnation Coral For 2-3months; I Have It In A Low Light Area With Moderate Water Flow. All Of The Sudden It Has Been Going Limp And Now It Is Completely Limp And Probobly Dying. Can Anyone Give Me Information On These Corals? What Makes Them Strive?? How Can I Bring It Back To Life??
Thanks
Rachel

Unfortunately you picked a very hard coral to try to keep. Here is a quote fom Ericc Borneman
"The members of the genus Dendronephthya are quite possibly some of the most beautiful corals in all the world. They can exist in spectacular arrays of color and, when expanded, present a gaudy array of spiky polyps. It is no wonder that they appear with such frequency in stores across the country. However, this temptation of color and beauty is very misleading. All members of Dendronephthya are extraordinarily difficult to keep in captivity, and their purchase should be avoided ."

They should have the water to flow over and past it, not a power head right at it. Do you run activated carbon? I ask because they also shrink up and die if they are in chemical warfare with other corals. since there has been no issues with the water and food, it sounds like a coral war is going on to me.

And "low" light is not good enough, IME, they do best in no light at all!!

2-3 months actually isn't that bad, you did considerably better then average!
Is the coral just limp, or starting to shrivel up as well? If he's just limp, this is the case with 95% of all Dendronephthya corals in aquariums. There has been moderate sucess turning the coral upside down, inside a cave, and letting him 'hang.'
Have you been feeding the coral anything?
