carpet anemone

at my lfs, i found tons of carpet anemone only for 12.99. is that a good deal. if i purhcased it, what kind of speacial ligthing do i need. right now i have a 20 gallon tank ph 8.3, nintrate 0, ammonia 0.25. have one maroon, one firefish goby, 6 blueleg hermits, and 2 turbo snails . 15 lbs of live rock and 20 lbs of live sand. i have one 18" 15 watt marine glo, and one aqua glo also 15 watt, and one blue moon oddeysea night light. would that be enough for an anemone or do i need for. i also have a powerhead with a duckbill in it.

You have nowhere near the equipment for an anemone. Your lighting is far short of adequate for most anemones....let alone a carpet. You would need metal halide lighting for that.
In addition......AMMONIA at 0.25!?!?!?!?!?!? It should be ZERO always for inverts....especially anemones. They are intollerant of ammonia. That level is getting dangerously high for even most fish!
I would also be very suspicious of any carpet for under $20. They are probably dying or sick.
Read the sticky post above on anemones and learn some.

Since I also live in sf I can guess where you found the anemone's at for that price. That store is marginal, at best. Their self serve idea is really bad especially for anemone's. Besides that carpets can get very large, mine is now 16inches. Since your tank is smaller it could prove to be very problematic even if u do upgrade your lighting.

Msd , where do you go to get your fish,fish stuff, etc ? I go to tropical reef and sometimes lucky ocean. sundays i go to 6th ave.

equipment/supplies I get it all online. I used to go to tropical paradise and nippon. Since they both have closed I will have to start looking around again. 6thave was just a sad place the last time I went sometime ago.

since i live near exile and go to tropical reef with him almost all the time its located on taravel between 28th and 29ths. its located near a post office.
