Carpet Anemones

Just HOW likely is it, that a Carpet Anemone will eat fish? I know they sometimes will, but would putting firefish in a tank with one be a huge mistake, or would the fish most likely know not to go near it?

i'd say just as likely as a fish to get eaten by a bta....if they swim into it they prolly wont last, but fish usually keep their distance from anemone

Depends on size of anenome and size of tank as well. Afew years ago I had one that I could have sworn ate a watchman goby I had one night. I think night lights may help a little too making sure they don't bump into it.
Really, though, I don't think it's a big concern.

Mainly the more smaller, timid species ( firefish, gobies, blennys, and juvies, ect. ) are in the most danger of falling pray to anemones. They are easily spooked into swimming into the anemone. Tank size and tank mates matter too. The more room and less agression then the less likely it will happen but even in the wild, most meals come to anemones from spooked critters fleeing one preditor into the waiting tenticals of another. Really does not matter what type of anemone other than the size I quess.

All of the above are true. I have a little to add. I have a large carpet anenome. I bought it from my cousin. In his tank, 3 perc clowns hosted in it. I put it in my tank, and gave it about a week to settle where it wanted to be. I then put 2 percs(mated pair) in the tank. one of them swam over to it, and when it rubbed his side on it, it immediatley ate it. It eventually got the other one, 2 shrimp, a small hippo tang, and a diamond gobe are what it has eaten to date. it ate my small Hippo last night, I saw it when it happened. Good luck.
