Can anyone tell me how large will a carpet anemone get?

I saw one at the LFS that was about 18" wide and about 12" tall. They sold it for $249.00. I must have stood there for 30 minutes watching it with a 4" clownfish. I did not have the room or money for it, but man was it beautiful. It was a blue carpet and the color was stunning.

It depends on which species but in general they can get quite large, 12 to 14" across is rather common. Stichodatyla Gigantea considered one of the more difficult species to care for can grow to about 18". Stichodactyla Mertensii is the largest of all clown anemones they can reach diameters of 36" or larger.

S.mertensi can get to about 36"
S. hadoni (most common)... "24
S.gigantea (most difficult).. 20"
S. helinthus.. (not a hosting species) 10-12
S.tapetum.. (not a hosting..)2-3
These are all just an average. My oldest gigantea is a little larger that 20 when completely inflated/stretched.

Rod do you know where to get an S Tapetum? I have been looking but cannot find anyone selling them.

If you can find Gary Maz... (something or another (sorry Gary) in the clownfish and anemone forum on that other large board, I think he usually has a few(or used to). He is in the NY area.
