i think i have lost more fish and shrimp due to the carpet anenome than nitrates, power outages and feeding issues!
anyone else know about this?
You feed your anemone chunks of fish and shrimp...you had to know it was a critter eater. I also had to remove my beautiful eater (LTA), he just got too expensive to feed since his favorite was the cleaner shrimp. They don't go hunting, the critters go to it to kill themselves. I will not be adding any more anemones to my tanks.
i did not know. i thoght my shrimp were just dying..and eaten by scavengers. until last month or so, i saw the tail sticking out of this anenome. its connected inside a rock that has lots of nice coral on it, any suggestion on how to get it out?
i do feed it shrimp and silverfish..veracious appetite i guess!
i figured it out! i have an extra tank, 29G. ill put the monster in there with a cpl crabs. i should be able to take the water from the big tank and use for the lil tank? maybe some new substrate(liuve rock too). would that work out? i cant get him out of the original rock. there are corals that are on it and a strawberry crab has been living in it for several months. they can have their own home!
Honestly, I would try to sell it or trade it. The carpet may do OK in the 29 for a bit if given the proper lighting and water conditions, but no long term success is doubtful. Here is a great article about carpet anemones: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2010/2/inverts

well, i cant get it out of the rock, i have the right lighting so will give it a go. thanks
I heard a power head directed at an anemone will get it to unseat....worth a mention to try.
