Cat Eye Problem! Any Suggestions?

This is my cat who is about 5 years old. In the last couple months i have noticed one of his eyes is darkening in patches. Does anyone know what this is from or if it could be causing him any problems?
sometimes it seems as if he has trouble seeing out of that eye...but im not positive

If this were a MUCH older cat and the discoloration had occured in BOTH eyes over a number of YEARS, I would call it normal age discoloration; as cats over 15 often have eyes that look like this, but your pet is far too young for this, and it's also abnormal for such distrophy to occur only in one eye.
while it's possible for it to be a simple congenital defect coming to light, it could also be something that requires immediate attention and treatment. Please keep us posted!

that was the other thing I was trying to think of was going to relook it up tonight when I got home from work. all of these said so far can cause this and all are serious.

Thanks so much for the responses! I actually had taken him to the vet previously, but she thought that it might just be abnormal coloration, and she said that he still had sight in the eye. However since then it seems like its getting worse (darker). I will take him back again soon, but surgery is not an option for me at this time. He still eats very well, and seems happy, so i guess ill just have to see what happens. Thanks again for the help!

I know it is difficult but I would suggest getting a second opinion, ideally from a vet that specializes in cats. :(

agreed. you might also want to ask for a referral to an ophthamologist.

She told us that apparently one of the best cat eye doctors in the U.S. is located in Greensboro, which is only 45 minutes away from my house. So ill have to get a refferal there

You made a post way back in 2007 about your cat's eye: that the iris was having discoloration/blotches. Actually I found the picture of you cat on a search that I did, trying to figure out what's wrong with my cat's eye. She's 6 now and in the last 6 months these blotches have appeared and really gotten worse quickly.

What ever happened with your cat? At the time you said you couldn't afford surgery; I'm in a position where I don't have any money either. I sure hope that you're going to receive this message. This is my first time here; I signed up with saltwaterfish to get in touch with you. I'm pretty sure I've got my setting to be notified by e-mail as soon as you reply.

Um...how about a welcome to the site. You suck isn't a proper response...it is after all the first post....but why post about a cat on a SW fish site????
so...1springchicken...do you even have a fish tank?

I didn't know it was a requirement to keep a saltwater or fish tank to post here.
She is obviously on a tight budget and hoping to find an answer to a similar problem her cat has. She ran a google search and found this specific thread.

Hi,
I don't know how it was managed, but the posts before mine were deleted. My comments were to somebody else who told the new member that they suck for making them think that Ophiura was back on the site. I stood up for said new member. Then I just asked a simple question of if they had a SW tank, we would have something to talk about...not that they had to have a tank to be allowed to post on the site. Without the other posts, my post reads off the wall....
Oh and my dear...you are still an ass...LOL
