Cause of Trigger Death?

So, I had to put our trigger out of his misery tonight because he wasn’t moving and he seemed to be in pain. Needless to say what was originally thought to be ich, then marine velvet, seems to be neither. Here’s what I noticed in pulling his body out of the tank:
•Both eyes were “inset” into his body
•His skin was so flaky that it was peeling off, exposing internal matter
•He had what I would call a bloody streak running half the length of his body on his bottom side with no apparent bite marks
•His gills were flawless, no apparent problems are infestations
Does anyone have an idea of what these symptoms describe? I just want to make sure it’s not something that’s contagious and if it is, I want to know what I’m treating. Any ideas? :help:
On a side note, here’s a link to the initial post (and a video)

Also, all the fish in the tank (volitan lion, dogface puffer, yellowtail damsel, and zebra eel) are doing fine, swimming with no problem, eating like pigs (as usual), and are acting normal

Most of those symptoms sound like secondary bacterial infection from the severe case of velvet.

See, my only question was that could it really have been velvet? All things I read said that velvet was first noticeable around the gills; however, his gills had nothing on them (even after he died) and he wasn't breathing hard at all except for last night before he died.
Could it still be velvet?

Seems like Velvet to me. That twiching you described in the other thread is a dead giveaway.
I'd also agree on the bacterial infection prognosis from Dave. (great name by the way, I've always liked it) Velvet takes such a horribly strong swipe at a fish's immune system. Triggers are tough as nails, testified by the fact that Velvet almost always kills what it infects. The fact that your fish survived the initial infection is remarkable.
Don't get too caught up in symptom this and symptom that. Think of it this way... everyone gets colds... some of us cough, some have runny noses, some have sore throats, it's all symptoms of the same illness, but just because you get a runny nose with your cold doesn't mean that just because my nose isn't running, I don't have a cold...
