ceramics in the tank

I had read somewhere on here that someone put a piece of glazed ceramics in thier tank for thier Clowns to lay eggs on . I have my own ceramic shop and a pair of mated clowns and was wondering if I really read that right or did I imagine it. I know there is dangerous inert ingredients in ceramics that are not handled properly and I was hesitant to take the chance on glazing a piece and having it craze (cracking of the glaze) later. Also I have not seen any research on the effects of salt water on the glazes over a period of time. Any input would be fasinating.

Some glazes contain lead nad other harmful elements. Everyone I've known that bred them professionaly used common unglazed flower pots.

Found this thread while doing some searching. I am trying to decide if I can a put fired but unglazed ceramic vase with a side broken out of it (like it came from a shipwreck) as a cave/refuge for small fish. Can I use this or would I need to use a food safe glaze on all of the pieces? If I use a glaze, will the corals and such that I hope to have in my tank someday be happy living on it?
Thanks for all the help this site has/will provide me.
