i have read that cerith snails are hard to breed in a home aquarium. What must you do in order for the ceriths to lay eggs? do i need certain water conditions, etc??

My friend has a ton of them in his tank, he started out with like 8 and end up with 30+ babies everywhere. As long as your water condition is right and there's enough food, I guess they'll lay eggs. :happyfish

I no sooner had ceriths in my one 2 gal pico and I had the opportunity to see one lay eggs, watched them, then they got stirred up, and we lost track of them..but in theend we now have a bunch of ceriths that ave been removed from that pico as well as other tanks. We just run regular standard water parameters notjhing special and they seem to do just fine at making more.

Speg,
This is why i asked.....
The Cerith snail is a small scavenger with an elongated spiral shell that is usually black with tiny white dots covering the entire shell. One of the most ideal scavengers, detritus eaters, and algae eaters these snails are perfect for the reef aquarium, quickly devouring detritus, uneaten food, decaying organics, fish waste, and several types of nuisance algae. Cerith Snails will often bury themselves in the sand, which will help maintain adequate oxygen levels in the substrate.
The Cerith Snail prefers an established aquarium with live rock and a deep sand bed. These snails are sensitive to high nitrate levels and copper-based medications.
The Cerith Snail is extremely difficult to breed in captivity.
but anyways, i posted this on another forum i am a member of and i had a few replies saying that snails will lay eggs with real good water quality, or they may lay the eggs when the water quality is very very very bad, in a last effort to save the species (as the person typed it)
So which one is it? do you need the good water or bad?? lol... cause i am curious why mine wont lay them....
