CFL for corals?

Theoretically, the daylight CFLs from home Depot will work... if you can fit enough of them over the tank...
But you won't get much color because the low temperature, even of the daylight bulbs (6500K) won't do much for coloration.
Don't bother with the standard ones (4100K cool white, 3000K warm white, etc). These are way too low and won't do much for you.

yes but they need to be in the proper spectrum.
By the time you find them and buy ghetto versions, you are better off buying proper lighting.
Going the Home Depot route always ends the same. It is overpriced and underperforming to be considered a viable lighting solution.
