Chaeto placement

I have a 90-gallon reef ready tank and my question is can I put the chaeto in the overflow of the tank and leave it in there? It would not be seen in there and there wouldnt be any need in a extra light as if I were to put it in the sump-fuge area would there?

Certainly the water flow and lighting would be good there. I would worry that it would clog up the drain. or at the very least slow the slow out of the tank and eventually having the tank overflow.

I have my cheto in a small "hang on back" refugium, in my 90 gal. Works beautifully the area is now filled with copepods. I leave an 18w bulb on 24/7. Even there I check for overgrowth and clogging of the return tube to the tank...but the location is extremely accessible.
