What type of filter do you have? This is not a normal occurance. Something must be causing the water to cloud up. What was your ammonia reading?

the same thing happened to me, when i change my filter pads my water clouded up. i think it was because i had some sand in my overflow and pushing the pad back down kicked the sand up. i had no fish in the tank at the time, so it was no biggie.

my ammonia was .5 i put in aqua safe and am gonna test ammonia later. all other fish are acting normal and eating well. i wonder if since the lion fish died in the middle of the night that his decomposing and the other fish eating him cause something in his body to be released. should i leave lights on or off and any suggestions on how to clear up water would be nice.

How long has this tank been running? Has it completed it's cycle? If it has been running a while then I would say that the 1st thing you may want to do is a partial water change. Also what type of filter do you have? Most filters have a compartment that you can add media like filter floss that would help clear up the water. Do you know what caused the death of the lionfish? Have you had him for a while, and was he eating well? I don't think changing from your normal lighting schedule will help at all.

Ichiro,
Sounds like you went through a mini-cycle which caused the cloudy water. I change my filter media pads every 60 days and my water will cloud up for a day or 2. After that, everything returned to normal and the cloudy water had no ill effects on my tank critters.
