I have purchased my tank, HOWEVER!!!!! it is curretly been used for a fresh water fish tank.( I have sold off all the fresh waterfish in the tank). It is currently still running on fresh water(with no fish), I want to know the best way to convert it to salt water?
Do I:
1. empty all the fresh water from the tank and sump (and the media in the sump)
2. leave the current water in the tank and just add the salt and let it mature(change the media in the sump).
or
3. empty some of the water(60%) add salt to that and the add the new salt water to the tank.(change the media in the sump).
I'm scard to leave the tank dry because I'm afraid it may leak! <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />

You are going to want to start from scratch. Tear down the tank clean it real good then add you sand or cruched coral. Then mix up your salt in a different container get it to the specific gracity that is needed then put in your tank. Make sure you have a good enough filter, lighting, and a nother good thing to have is a protein skimmer. i hope this helps. If you are going to do this take your time and do things right.
