I was under the impression that live sand was better for the tank than crushed coral, so I was thinking/planning to change. Is this true? My tank has been established for about 2 years and everything is running fine. Would it be ok to, say change out 1/4 at a time, scooping out coral and putting in (rinsed) sand with a flex tube or plastic bag?
If not, I could board everything in a smaller tank, change out substrate. But, if I change out all at once, would my tank have to cycle again?
Is it worth changing cc out?
