Currently I have a 55 gallon and it is only my 2nd saltwater setup so I am still pretty new to this so bear with me. Right now I have CC as a substrate and grotto rock for decoration but I want to change to live rock and sand. The only fish I have in the tank right now are 2 domino damsels a yellowtail damsel and a humu humu trigger. In the future I would like to add some corals but is this possible with the trigger, and what else can I add that will be compatible? Keep in mind I'm still a newbie.

i don't think triggers are reef safe and mine sits there and chomps on my live rock sometimes loud enough to wake me up so i don' think you would want yours bitting on some expensive corals

You want to get the trigger out of there. The only trigger that I have seen in a reef tank before is a niger trigger. As far as things compatible in a reef, most invertebrates (shrimp, crabs, etc.) are fine, as well as tangs, blennies, gobies, dottybacks, lionfish (not with inverts though), anthias, and some species of angels and butterflies (with caution).

You can put mushrooms in with the trigger. As far as another fish to add... I would add some type of wrasse. My choice would be a paddelfin wrasse.

I like the yellow watchman goby personally. It's my favorite fish right now. If you get a pistol shrimp to pair up with it the damsels and tang would probably leave them alone.
