I'm planning of changing my 30 gal with ARAGONITE substrate with DSB. How do I replace those without putting too much stress on my fish or worst water spilage ? Any recommendation what sand to buy ? I heard that southdown is good. thanks guys.
I currently have in there the ff:
1 yellow tang
10 hermit crabs
3 conches
1 cleaner shrimp
2 anemones
thanks in advance,
Reuben.

I would scoop the argonite out with a small container.. I remember when i did this. I pushed most of the sand to one side of the tank, and scooped it out. This way, the fish, who'll get a bit spooked will stay on one side while I work on the other.. or you could get a good net and scoop it out.
Get the argonite out before putting sand in. If theres a tiny bit left, don't worry about it. Then carefully put the sand in.. theres other topics on how on this board.
Oh, btw, the yellow tang is going to outgrow your tank.. but you probably know that.

I just performed this task recently. I started on on side and did the same, scooped all the sand to one side and used a cup to scoop it out. Any hard to get sand can be siphoned out. When adding the new sand I just did the reverse, scooped the new sand into a cup and slowely spread the sand at the bottom of the tank with the cup. This reduced any clouding of the tank. It was fairly painless and the wish should be fine.
Good luck
