Cheap lighting

I currently use a 50/50 bulb on my tank...I will be upgrading soon to a 10000k and a 50/50. Well. The ballast for 2 bulbs costs like $50. So I wen to my local Home Depot and found one for $19.50. It is amazing how much the fish store marks up stuff.
Next time yougo to the fish store for something...think to yourself, does home depot have what i am getting?

I have to agree 100%. If it comes to electrical, or wood for an aquarium cabinet I shop at Lowes or home depot. For aquarium hardware, I shop online. I find that LFS marks their stuff up 30 to 60% over what I pay using online merchants and places like Home Depot.
The only time I go to an LFS is to look for a coral or fish that I can't live without.

did you notice if they have VHO ballasts at home depot or Loews

Make sure what you are buying is marine grade and water sealed.

I will look in to it. I am going back today so I will check if they have something for VHO.

thanks for the heads up.. i will check Home Depot for twin strip canopies...

I checked HD, Lowes and Menard for months and still visit those store quite often.
They do not sell "real VHO ballast".
