a guy down the road had a couple donkeys on his lease land he sold.he dont want them at his house.so my wife smelling out a deal and loving animals called the number on the sign.all he wanted was the $50 he spent on the for sale sign.so i fenced aross 250 foot long in the back and he delivered them last saturday.they have about 2 acres to play.saves me 1 1/2 hours of mowing.so she gets a couple new pets and i save on mowing time.they are pretty cool and friendly.we already can walk up to them and feed them carrots .my friend tried to put on a halter but they must have know something was up cause he couldnt get near them with the thing.

I'd show you the finger of one of my coworkers... But he doesn't have most of it, thanks to his donkey. (you can imagine the jokes about that...)

yea i have heard some can be nasty.we use caution with these guys so far.they seem pretty mellow.problem is my wife is too trusting with animals.she thinks all animals are friendly.a couple months ago there was a cow that got out down the street.i called the fire chief to come help get her back behind the fence.well we cornored her and my wife stood in front of this scared thing.i had to yell at her to get the f out of her way.hell my wife is only 5 foot 8 and 120 lbs .no match for a cow.
so i need to keep reminding her .a couple of my stupid dogs keep trying to get under the fence at the donkeys.boy are they going to be surprised if they ever get to the other side.

Nice A$$! LOL. they need way more than just grass. Donkeys actually protect other animals and I read somehwere that Mules will kill Panthers to protect horses and people.

Ooooooooooooooooooooh, you gotta nice ass! lol
My girlfriend is the same way..."They're cute...they won't hurt me...".
Given the chance...and the right amount of property...I'd have a zoo, thanks to the 'ole lady. lol
Good on ya, for taking them in, though. Too many animals (not just dogs/cats) are put down, every year, because people abandon them.

Grass is fine. They can live their whole lives on grass. Most folks will supplement with alfalfa and grain, but with any donkey, mule or horse, they don't need much else beside grass. Donkeys, like horses, can get protein burnout, so let them eat mostly grass. The only other thing you might want to look into is a mineral lick for donkeys, although I believe a horse lick would suffice. Just some food for thought.

We usually grained our horses and donkies out in the fall. You just have to watch the amount of grain they get. Grain should be distributed by the weight of the animal so you don't have problems like protein burnout or excessive weight gain. Grazing of grass is fine. They may get heavy if they have enough land and graze all day. If you're buying square bales, they break off into sections. I would feed 3 sections a day and no more since they have grazing area. They look to be in good health and aren't skinny so I would say that the person you got them from took care of them well and just wanted to get rid of them to a good home. Oh...don't forget to worm them regularly too. You can pick that up at any feed/supply store and it will tell you how much per weight on the tube. Fairly cheap.
Nice looking animals and glad to hear they have you guys to look after them .
