I know the pics are dark but not my fault. The 48" T-8 was 3 years old. Plus algea and crust on the top of the inside protective lense.
Yep that is flakes resting on top of the algae field.

This Pleco is rest on top of an algea bloom. Would you guess that the water for the tank is under that algae, well it was.
This pic is of the substrate of the tank. The green in the foreground is the background. Each algae ball is the size of a 1/2 cotton ball. They covered the bottom of the tank
Here is what it looks like after I bought everyrthing new and cleaned the tank.
