Yup, it's a Chiton. I think they are all algae eaters, so you don't have to worry about it. That's a really pretty one, too! Cool.

who sells them? does swf ever have them? i have never seen them in any of my lfs? are they reef safe and are they hardy?

not sure it was a hitch hiker i never seen them in any lfs around here...

I did some reading on them they are reef safe and algae eaters but the ones i seen didnt have this color...

I think that for the most part, chitons are algae eaters, but as you mentioned, its not common to see the colors that this one has. I'd keep an eye out just to be safe. Even if it did start eating corals, I don't know how you'd get it off the rock.

well i havnt seen it in a few days and all corals seem fine but i will keep a eye on things and maby get some more close up pics when i do see it again...

I have had one of these for quite awhile. I mostly see it at night.
mine has a green "skirting" and lives in a hole in my live rock
