Check Valve worht it?

If I drill in one or two 1/8" holes in my return line just below the water surface, should I still get a Check Valve?
I hear they reall slow down the flow (GHP). Is there any type that's better than the others?

Swing is better than spring type as far as backpressure.
Swing must be mounted horizontally to be effective though.

Some folks use check valves - some don't.
I'm one that does not.
Check valves have moving parts within.
They need to be cleaned periodically or they may stick.
A drilled hole in the return must also be maintained - or at least checked often for possible clogs.
It's easier to check the vent hole than to clean a check valve.
I vote no on the check valve and go with the 1/8" holes ;)

Thanks!
I'll go with the drilled holes and test ie enough to make me confortable. And then clean it.
