Any one buy or make a check valve for the return line?
I am making a refug the my finished basement and want to install a check valve. All I see are ones w/ metel springs.

Stay away from check valves. They will get cloged and then you are screwed. you really don't need one. just allow for back flow, in regards to how much volume your sump will hold. good luck and remember test for leaks, speaking from personal experience.

Some say that "all" check valve fail but I think that there good ones and bad.....There also many different types out there to get.The most common are "spring" (which I think restrict too much flow) and "flapper :p " which use a flap w/rubber which seem to work best when mounted "up&down".
I've been told not to use one, but when your tank floods out once, you really sleep better after you know theres a check valve just in case ;)
This is just my opinion

I'm pushing a ten foot head, and i'm thinking more for pump life. If the power goes the pump will have to push all that head again.
Wasted- have you seen valves with no metal springs? If so, where?

marine depot ,savco sell clear ones with flappers. I like check valves. My tank is made/designed to use without but I still use them cuz it's easier. I use true unions with them also. They are clear so I now when they get dirty and clean. never had to in a year. I never ued them before but decided to add them and am happy.
