I believe I am west. I live in Logan Square. If you know where that is. I do have a vehicle, so travel is not an issue.
Thanks for the replies. I am looking forward to getting my 30g reef up and running again.

LMAO, Scott's is one of the worst shops in the area...I'd rather go to a *****. Their selection is poor, staff sucks, tanks are flithy and unhealthy...the store is a JOKE!
Seaschor in Buffalo Grove is a good shop.
Advanced Aqautics in Schaumburg is ok
Dark Lord Coral In Brookfield is outstanding for exotics.
Reef Depot in Villa Park is hands down the best bang for the buck but their hours suck (except for the weekend).
Shotank in Mundelien is also a killer shop.

Why would you say Scott's is a bad shop? I have not seen filthy tanks. I have not seen poor staff and the selection sometimes is small but they order what you need.

I would also recomend Living Sea Aquarium in Park Ridge. They have a huge selection of saltwater fish, corals, freshwater, and supplies. There shop takes up 4 store fronts.
Great store with great quality

I think I will try the reef depot for my clowns and cleaner crew. I just always thought I was the one that screwed up with my tank and that is why things died.

If you go to Schaumburg there is 3 stores in almost one place. 2 of them are on intersection Golf/Roselle, it's on Golf rd west of Roselle on the south side of the street. Another one is on Roselle, South of Golf rd just north of Wise rd(east side). Sorry I don't remember the names of the stores.

I belive you are thinking of Aquarium Adventure

All though Living Sea's prices are a tad higher, i belive there quality is much better. I have stocked 2 tanks with various fish and have had 0 problems with any of them. I also rarely see ANY fish in their tanks that look sick or have ich.

They have a lot nice corals with good prices, but I don't think there is a lot of fish and inverts.
You should check out this store:
Coral Reef Pet Center
(708) 456-0768
7723 Lawrence Av
Harwood Heights, IL
Nothing fancy but one of the best prices you can find out there. Their clowns and inverts are pretty cheap.

If you are willing to travel a bit try Upscale Aquatics on Rt 59 near Joliet. That is were I go for anything I do not get off of here. Also a real good one in Lombad off of Main St can not remember the name of it massive selection of livestock and decent prices. But hands Down would go with Upscale he will sell you anything out of the Store display tanks if he does not have it in his sale tanks. He QT's everything for 2 weeks min before selling it also has Tonga and Fiji live rock plus will order about anything you could want and get it for you.
I wanted a VERY LARGE yellow tang for my tank they had them instock 7-8 inches long eating like PIGS on Mysis for 60 bucks.

True, I think they get their fish directly. That's why their fish looks good and the prices are higher. I wouldn't get anything else unless it is on sale. Corals and inverts are crazy expensive! The good thing about this place is they have some good deals every weekend. This is why I visit them often. For example last weekend they had $5 yellow watchman. Another reason is that it is a very cool place to check out!

The place on Main Street in Lombard is called Tropi-quatics. I have bought from there before because there prices are VERY reasonable, but when ever i go there i see a good number of fish that either have ich or some other disease. Needless to say I bought several fish there and they ended up dieing of a bad case of ich in about a week.

terrible condition of the fish

If you're up for a drive, Rod's Reef in DeKalb.

From what I've heard, hes been really busy with his food sales, so the store isn't what it used to be. He still has a lot of nice corals and has started breeding Banggais again. The dry good selection is a little thin.
But its definitely worth the trip just to talk to Rod. Super nice guy and one of the most knowledgeable people in the hobby.
